Note to Self

Next time you plan to print off your entire novel (revised 2nd draft) with the intention of getting it in the post by 4pm (for guaranteed next day delivery to eagerly awaiting mentor who was quite possibly expecting it to arrive today) REMEMBER your printer takes 1 hour to print 150 pages. If you only have forty minutes to print 400 pages - IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Tell me about it! When I printed out my full to send to an agent I was HORRIFIED by how long it took - and desperate to get to the post office to send it off before it shut.

Ohohohnoooooooo. You could try printing it in 6pt single-spaced perhaps (with no margins?)...

Ah well.

Whoops. It's always the technical things that floor you isn't it?

I just found your blog and loved the title. Congratulations of finishing the novel and getting it out there to editors and mentors.

I'm doing some writing as well, helped by a writing group that meets regularly and is very encouraging. It's a lonely job, but we must carry on.

Cally - I remember you blogging about it at the time - if only I had listened and learned :o) Still hopefully I will be better prepared now for the day when I send it off to an agent

Leigh - I'm so glad I didn't think of that at the time. I was in such a flap I migh have gievn it a try ;O}

Helen - Yes, and I thought the novel writing was the tricky bit

Lakeviewer - Hi thanks for dropping in. Glad you have the support of a writing group - don't know what I would do without mine

Ooh, I discovered this a few years ago, with my first-ever novel. I popped into my husband's office thinking his printer would be quicker than ours, but after what felt like days I was mortified to be still there, when other people were waiting to use it. Need to set a full day aside next time!!

Hope it's finished printing now :o))

omigod - now I'm actually quite glad my audience was only a gang of four 8 year olds loudly demanding to be allowed to play on Club Penguin and then whispering in huddles when I started growling.

All printed and posted now 9in two batches with an embarrassed 'rest to follow tomorrow' note in the first one. Seeing my mentor on Thursday - gulp

Oh, for those agents and publishers with facilities for e-mail submissions. And the list is growing!

As it happens I am sitting here trying to get some work done while my ten year old is trying to get on the PC so he can go on Club Penguin too;-)

Well done on the novel and good luck with it.

Picking up one of your earlier posts - I was up on the Moors at Christmas, revisiting old haunts - it never loses its charm.

Dotterel - now that sounds like a great idea - hope it catches on

Neil - Hiya. Yes we have continual battles over PC time. The daughter is obsessed with the whole penguin thing and about something calle Spineworld which I don't really understand.
Glad you were able to haunt old haunts to recently, though if you had appeared out of the mist while I was there I would have been totally spooked
